Celebrating Pride by Renewing Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at Opal

Becoming an inclusive, equitable workplace is a journey that never ends. And truly celebrating Pride involves a whole lot more than rainbows and parades. That’s why, here at Opal, we’re marking the occasion by renewing our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion this month and kicking off a revitalized, reimagined, and collaborative DEI roadmap.
Here’s what this program means for the immediate future:

Partner workshops

We’re investing in a partnership with local equity consulting group Cinder to conduct a series of all-company workshops. Cinder will lead every member of Team Opal through training sessions that focus on key issues related to DEI in the workplace: Anti-Oppression, Individual Allyship, and Organizational Allyship. We’ll align as individuals and as a team on shared terminology and understanding, setting a clear foundation for the organization that we are building moving forward.
We fully expect to get a little uncomfortable as we work to confront privilege and bias, and build the skills needed to be better allies for each other and our communities. In fact, getting uncomfortable is the point.

Internal DEI library

As we progress through our partner workshops, we’ll be developing an internal DEI Library, starting with a Glossary of Terms. We believe that the language we use, and the ways in which we use it, directly impact our culture. Because of this, building and maintaining a shared language is invaluable as it relates to supporting a culture of inclusivity, understanding, empathy, and trust.

Company events

We’ll also be hosting special events for our entire team throughout the month of June, from a lunch-and-learn centered around Glennon Doyle’s Abandoning Identity podcast to Pride-themed virtual celebrations. Because while we’re serious about doing the work, we also want to celebrate our LGBTQ+ community!

As we take these steps and make these investments in training and education, we’re continuing to build out our DEI roadmap to improve inclusion, diversity, equity, access, and safety for everyone working at Opal. We’ll share more updates as we move forward on our journey.
